Aims and Duties

The aim of CESD, where experts from different units and disciplines collaborate, is to carry out interdisciplinary education and research activities at the local, regional, and global levels on various energy-related issues concerning Turkey and its surroundings. Through these efforts, the Center contributes to sustainable development by sharing the resulting knowledge, interpretations, and analyses with national and international public audiences. With the establishment of the Center, the educational and research activities on energy conducted at Kadir Has University will be supported, internationally standardized studies will be developed, and with the implementation of new activities, the scope and quality of education and research in the energy field will be expanded and their effectiveness increased. Furthermore, the Center will contribute to the training of the human resources required to solve various energy-related problems of the 21st century.

According to its regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 24 March 2015 and numbered 29305, the Center’s areas of activity are as follows:

  • To contribute to and enhance the courses and ongoing research in the field of energy within the Department of Energy Systems Engineering and other related departments of the University.
  • To initiate, coordinate, and carry out interdisciplinary research activities by utilizing the existing research potential in different departments of the University in the energy field.
  • To launch and manage interdisciplinary graduate-level education (master’s and PhD) in the energy field in coordination with various university units.
  • To organize national and international education programs, short courses, certificate programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, and congresses in the energy field; to develop and lead research and consultancy projects; and to promote collaboration to create synergy with internal and external stakeholders.
  • To monitor national and international developments and project calls in energy topics, and to ensure timely and complete access to this information.
  • To collect national and international legislation, judicial decisions, and other written and visual documents in the energy field; to publish content in Turkish and other languages; and to contribute to such studies.
  • To inform university staff and students about domestic and international events on the subject and to facilitate their participation.
  • To establish relationships and collaborate with national and international institutions, and with research, implementation, and educational centers, institutes, and similar institutions abroad that are active in relevant fields.
  • To provide a platform that enables the exchange of knowledge between industry and academia.
  • To promote awareness of entrepreneurship and innovation in the energy sector by organizing various activities and competitions.
  • To encourage the assessment of intellectual property rights following the completion of research projects and to support patent and license applications.
  • To evaluate business ideas developed in the energy field by entrepreneurs and innovators from within and outside the University; to lead the establishment of an incubation center to help launch these ideas; and to support the commercialization of projects and obtained patents by performing technology transfer office functions.
